New acquisitions include many books and newspapers, published both in Belarus and abroad. In addition, there are numerous documents, letters, portraits, photo albums and other personal items of Mr. Akula. Especially noteworthy is a set of Mr. Akula’s own works, as well as two typewriters on which he produced them.
The second archive is that of Mr. Anatoli Chrenouski of Montreal. Mr. Chrenouski, past President of the Belarusian Association of Quebec graciously decided to donate his private collection to the Center. It comprises several hundred books, maps from various historical periods, newspapers, journals (including “Pramien”) and plaques.
Especially noteworthy is his collection of phonograph records (78 rpm), a cultural treasure trove of Belarusian popular and folk music from decades ago.
These collections are being catalogued, and their contents will be posted on this web site for use and access by research scholars.
The Center has recently received recent books, DVD’s, and music recordings collected by Nadzeya Sychuhova during a recent trip to Belarus and to Poland. These will enhance the significant materials that the CBS continues to acquire as a result of donated personal libraries and archives. The CBS collection will also benefit from the receipt of academic journals and the production of Belarusian-language presses in Belarus and in Poland. We wish to thank everyone who has offered their council, their publications, and their logistical help in this ongoing process.
